35 Over match against Belize

Wednesday 28 November

Location: Bermuda Landings

Weather: Overcast (fortunately)

Andy Brownlee won the toss for the third time and elected to bat first.

David Pickup and Ryan Jones (guest player) opened the batting.

Ryan faced the first over and managed to see it through. Unfortunately David Pickup was dimissed in the first ball of the second over to a smart catch in the slips.

David Hewitt came in next and quickly made 5 runs. Ryan Jones was caught at gully and Jamie Punter the man of the match came into bat. Jamie top scored with 14 runs.

The Falkland islands managed to see out 23 overs before all teh wickets fell reaching 60 all out.

The Belize National squad managed to surpass the Falkland Islands score in the nineth over with the loss of one wicket taken by Jamie Punter.

20/20 games on 27 November 2012

The Falkland Islands Cricket Team played two 20/20 games yesterday. The first game was again the Belize U19 National Squad. The Falklands batted first and managed to score 52 runs off 19.3 overs. David Hewitt top scored with the bat managing to score 29.
The Belize U19 squad scored 54 after 10 overs having lost 3 wickets.
For Belize Herbert Banner top scored with 33 and that was after taking a nasty blow to the jaw from a ball that popped up from David's bowling.
Herbert also took 3 wickets for 12 runs
We awarded Herbert man of the match

In the second game we played the Belize Senior National Squad. Again The Falklands batted first and scored 62 for the loss of eight wickets from their twenty overs. Toby Poole and Jamie Punter top scored with 11 runs. David Pickup got 10. Toby was inspirational (Yes I know!). He came into bat with seven balls to go and scored two fours. A real morale boosting innings.

Andy took two wickets for 23 runs

For the Belize National squad Kenroy Roca top scored with 26 and Warren Anthony took 3 wickets for 12 runs.

The Belize National squad surpassed teh Falkland Islands total in the nineth over.

The Falklands awarded Kenroy the man of the match award.

David Hewitt was awarded the man of the day award from all his team mates. Very thoroughly deserved for his innings in the first match and teh three wickets he took overall.

Overall teh day was a great success. The local school children came to watch us play and there was quite a crowd. James Bates and Ian Betts were playing cricket with a group of the school children.

More to follow :-)

cheque presentation

Liberty Children's Home

Met a wonderful lady today at The Liberty Children's Home in Belize. Her name is Delphena. Rather than retire after serving for 24 years in the US Navy she leads the running of the Liberty Children's Home. The facility is the home to twenty eight children between the age of 3 - 14 who have for one reason or another not had the best start in life.

The Falkland Isalnds Cricket Team visited the Delphena and the children today and presented a cheque for $1,500 USD. The whole team was humbled by the experience but felt extremely privileged to be allowed to meet the children and the wonderful people that help to look after them all under Delphena'a leadership.

If you feel able to donate money to the Liberty Children's Home google their website and contact them.
You will be helping to make a huge change in a young person's life.

Monday 26 November

Just got back to the hotel after our practice session at the local cricket ground. Conway & Ryan our local cricket enthusiasts say that today is cool!! It must have been around twenty-four degrees celsius.

The whole team is very upbeat about our prospects.

Andy Brownlee & Ian Hansen were on the local television breakfast show this morning. They both performed admirably.

Off to the Liberty Children's Home later to make our first donation.

Sunday 25 November 2012

Well we all finally made it to Belize minus one of Paicey's bags. Left on the tramac at Miami Airport. Good news is that it should be coming on the plane tomorrow and no one has to loan Craig any underwear :-)

The Black Orchid Resort is extremely nice and right to a river. Half the team have already already had a dip in the river.

Just got ack from a BBQ at The British Legion. Many thanks for their hospitality.

Will post more tomorrow with photos when I am not so tired

Just a test

Hi guys technical issues i.e user error

The evening before

Well it's 8:00pm, the day before we leave on tour, and I'm way too excited for a grown man of 47. Absolutely ridiculous really.
Fourteen good men and true (no laughing please) will be flying out of The Falklands tomorrow to embark on a two week cricket tour of Belize, Barbados & Jamaica.
We are playing the U19 National side in two 20/20 games on Tuesday 27 Nov followed by a 50 over game against the Senior National side on Wednesday 28 Nov.

In Barbados we are playing The Isolation Cavaliers on Friday 30 Nov and North Stars on Sunday 2 Dec. Both 35 over matches.

Whilst in Jamaica we are playing The Clarendon Masters on Tuesday 4 Dec and a Jamaica Invitational Masters side on Wednesday 5 Dec, again both 35 over matches.

I will try my best to blog and post photos each day of the tour with the help of the younger members of the squad.

Steve :-)
