Sunday 2 December - Game against North Star

Sunday 2 December

Opponents: North Star

The bus picked us up from the hotel at 10:30a.m and we had a pleasaent journey to the Northern part of the island. The facilities at North Star were just incredible. Some minor county cricket clubs have played there on tour. We had a very warm welcome from both the captain of th eteam and the president of the club.

Craig Paice won the toss (5th time in a row now) and put our opponents into bat.

North Star got 316-2 in their 30 overs. The wicket takers were Wendell Coppin and Jamie Punter. James Bates took a smart catch on the boundary to dismiss L Babb off Jamie's bowling and Toby Poole took another good catch on the boundary off Wendell's bowling to dismiss T Toppin.

The stats for the innings are below

R Greaves           Retired        76

Falkland Islands Bowling Stats

A Brownlee         6 overs 63-0
J Smith                6 overs  73-0
W Coppin           6 overs  53-1
J Punter               6 overs  45-1

After a very agreeable lunch The Falkand Islands Team went into bat. Pickup and Fowmes opened with Pickup facing the first ball. David Pickup scored 1 off the first ball. Steve Fowmes saw the rest of the over off. David Pickup was given out LBW in the next over to a full toss that hit him on top of the pad.
Jim Smith from West Falkland game into bat next (Real name Joel). Jim and Steve had a partnership of 21 runs before Jim was caught in the slips after a thick edge for 17. Wendell Coppin was the next out to bat. Steve Fowmes was bowled out to a ball that stayed low. That was after catching a ball below his protectve Aero Strippers on the right thigh and one in a rather sensitive area.

Wendell went on to score 10 before being caught in the slips. David Hewiitt scored a respectable 10 before being bowled and the rest of the team did not score.

The Falklands were all out for 52. A morale victory getting two more runs than against The Isolation Cavaliers.

Once again I must remind readers of the level of cricket in the Caribbean. In both Barbados & Jamaica cricket is the national sport. Children start playing the game at as young as 5.

After the game presentations were made by both teams and Craig Paice gave an elequent speech thanking our hosts for their hospitality.
